Group Programs and Therapeutic Recreation

Barnabas Home provides a range of group programs and recreation focusing on the diverse needs and goals of the residents.  Examples of programming include:


  • Substance abuse educational groups
  • Substance abuse relapse prevention
  • Cultural diversity groups – religious activities optional
  • Anger management
  • Personal hygiene
  • Independent living skills


Sports activities (street hockey, basketball, flag football, softball, volleyball, swimming, hiking, fishing, etc.)

Weekend Outings:

  • Outdoor activities (canoeing, hiking, camping trips)
  • Movie theaters
  • Restaurants

The clinical director will oversee the assessment and programming of all clients including those with developmentally-delays and disabilities.  Other evaluations and assessments include, but are not limited to, include: initial assessments, psychosocial evaluations, and comprehensive treatment plans.

Barnabas Home does not contract for treatment services.  All clients are assessed by an independent psychiatrist within one month of arrival.  Psychiatric evaluations my be provided more quickly if deemed necessary due to client behavior.

Barnabas Home has an on-campus school that is provided by the Jackson County School System.  As clients demonstrate acquisition of the necessary social skills, they are permitted to attend either the Jackson County Middle School, or Jackson County High School.

Client DCBS worker is notified when a client is placed in an emergency safety physical intervention (ESPI), is injured, or any risk management intervention is applied.
